DOT Hazardous Material Training

The Department of Transportation requires mandatory training for anyone who performs any function regulated by the US DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations.

The affected “hazmat employee” may be anyone who selects or fills hazardous materials packages, labels containers, completes shipping papers, loads or unloads vehicles, transloads hazardous materials, or operates vehicles used in the transport of hazardous materials.

The responsibility for training rests with the employer. The DOT Hazmat training overs the following:

– General awareness /familiarization training

– Function-specific training

– Safety training

– Security awareness training

– In-depth security training (if applicable)

Initial training must be completed within 90 days of hazmat employment or change in job function. Refresher training is required once every three years.

Advantage of on-site training are:

  • Simulates the job
  • Allows for real time discussion and provides interaction to integrate theory and practice
  • Allows the employees to use critical thinking skills to engage in a problem solving process that incorporates professional knowledge
  • Procedural and policy gaps are identified

Joshi Environmental, Inc. (JEI) offers on-site customized training that meets the mandatory training requirement.
